Introduction :

Tether is a revolutionary mobile music streaming app that redefines the way users discover, save, and share music, albums, and podcasts. It also offers a unique paid subscription model that introduces a feature called "Tether Memories." This feature allows users to upload their photos and videos, which are then intelligently combined with a playlist generated by AI. As the lead designer, my role encompassed the entire design process, from problem identification to solution implementation.


 

problem :

Currently, our music and the photo/video content we create on a daily basis live separately on our devices. Tether is challenging the idea that all of those things can live together in one space, that is individually curated, and specific to each users needs.

  • Designing a space where our music and the content from our lives can not only share the spotlight, but be combined together to create an even more elevated bank to store our memories.

The core problem was the need to enhance user engagement and create a deeper emotional connection with the music streaming experience. Users often felt disconnected from the music they enjoyed, and there was a lack of personalization in the app.

  • Similar to a “home” landing page, Discover offers a space to explore and play with new and old audio.

In the fast-paced realm of music streaming, where melodies and beats orchestrate our daily lives, understanding user preferences and behavior is paramount. Tasked with understanding user experiences, desires, and pain points, I delve into interviews with curiosity, empathy, and an insatiable appetite for knowledge.
Through a meticulously designed series of user interviews, I engaged with a range of music enthusiasts, from everyday listeners to devoted audiophiles. The interviews are a combination of questions, observations, and discussions, capturing the pulse of the users' music streaming habits. I navigated through a myriad of topics, including user satisfaction, app usability, content discoverability, and the sought-after paid subscription plans.

Based on the interview conducted and the research gathered, it is evident that users' music streaming experience is a crucial aspect of their lives. The interviewees expressed their desire for a seamless and personalized experience when it comes to accessing and discovering music. They highlighted the importance of a user-friendly interface that allows for easy navigation, quick search options, and personalized recommendations tailored to their preferences. The research further emphasized the significance of a reliable streaming platform that ensures uninterrupted playback and high-quality audio. Users also appreciated additional features such as curated playlists, social sharing options, and the ability to save and download music for offline listening.
